Hellenic Telecommunications (OTE) Successfully Transformed to an IMS Based Next Generation Network Provided by Huawei

Athens, Greece, Oct 8, 2011 – Huawei, a leading global information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider, announced that OTE, the largest telecommunications provider in the Greek market and one of the leading telecom Groups in South-eastern Europe, has successfully transformed its softswitch based network to an IMS (IP Multimedia Subsystem) based Next Generation Network provided by Huawei in Greece.

The launched IMS network, which covers all of the country including the capital city Athens, is based on Huawei cutting edge and mature IMS solution and enables OTE to provide not only traditional voice services but also enriched communication features (e.g. Web based self care portal, multimedia services, instant messaging and presence based services).

The launched IMS network has characteristics of high-reliability, high-quality and high-efficiency. The high-reliability is based on the geographic redundancy technology, so there is no single failure in the network; the high-quality is based on the IP Voice Quality Enhancement technology, so the TDM (Time Division Multiplexing) alike voice experience is ensured; the high-efficiency is benefited from Huawei special operation and maintenance tools and Huawei unified platform.

The launched IMS network offers as a first phase SIP Trunking, IP Centrex and Unified Communication application for Enterprise market as well as VoBB (Voice over Broadband), Messaging and Self-Care Portal application for Residential market to over 500K users.

The Core Network President of Huawei CEE & Nordic region Dr. ZhangQin said “We are pleased to support OTE to deploy an IMS network. OTE has an impressive subscriber base and IMS can form the basis for offering the advanced services that the end users require. Huawei is committed to support OTE in always launching the best services"
