ZTE tangos with Telefonica to launch Skate smartphone in Spain

16 September 2011, Shenzhen, China – ZTE Corporation (“ZTE”) (H share stock code: 0763.HK / A share stock code: 000063.SZ), a publicly-listed global provider of telecommunications equipment and network solutions, has announced the first launch in Europe of its new flagship smartphone, the ZTE Skate, in association with Telefonica.
The Skate launch event is being held today in Spain, as part of Madrid Fashion Week.
The competitively priced Skate smartphone has a large 4.3 inch capacitive display and runs Android 2.3 - Gingerbread. It is a slimline 11.35 mm and weighs just 148g, with styling inspired by the skateboard and intended to reflect the young and energetic lifestyle of the handset’s target market.
“The Skate builds on the global success of the ZTE Blade smartphone,” said ZTE executive vice president and head of the Terminals Division Mr He Shiyou. “Like the ZTE Blade, the Skate brings a high quality smartphone experience to a significant proportion of the population who might otherwise find smartphones restrictively expensive.”
“ZTE is continuing to build its smartphone range, and we have committed 60 percent of the Terminal Division’s R&D resources to smart terminals,” said Mr He. “We plan to announce a total of 30 smartphone models before the end of 2011.”
ZTE will also hold the Asia Pacific Skate launch in Hong Kong in September, with launch activities following in European countries including the UK and France, in Asian countries including Malaysia, Indonesia and China, and in the US.
The ZTE Skate has an 800MHz application processor with a graphics accelerator chip, a single built-in 5MP auto-focus camera and GPS with A-GPS which enables fast initial acquisition of the device’s position.
The 4.3 inch TFT (thin film transistor) screen has a 480 x 800 resolution. The open source Android operating system gives users access to a wide variety of applications and provides a user-friendly interface with practical and powerful multimedia capabilities.
The Skate runs all major audio and video formats including MP3, AAC, MIDI, WCV and AMR audio, and MPEG4, H.263 and H.264 video. Multimedia capabilities are enhanced with the A2DP (Advanced Audio Distribution Profile) and AVRCP (Audio/Video Remote Control Profile) Bluetooth profiles that enable high quality audio and video to be played through remote devices.
The handset works with GSM, GPRS and EDGE networks in the 900, 1800 and 1900Mhz bandwidths, and on HSDPA and UMTS networks in the 900 and 2100MHz bandwidths. Over HSDPA networks, data download speeds can be up to 7.2mbps.
In addition to the usual SMS, MMS, email and IM capabilities, it comes with a range of Google apps including the Google Chrome Lite browser, Google Maps, Google Search and Gmail.
ZTE’s strategic focus on the smartphone market, announced at Mobile World Congress in February 2011, has played a major part in the company achieving the No. 5 position among the world’s handset manufacturers. Smartphone sales in the same period were 400 percent up on the first half of 2010, with US sales up 300 percent.
The ZTE Skate is expected to build on the success of the ZTE Blade smartphone, which has been the company’s flagship product for the last 12 months. The Blade is sold in over 50 countries and has recently been the biggest selling Android smartphone in China, averaging more than 17,000 units per day.

Huawei Partners with Aero2 to Launch World's First LTE TDD/FDD Commercial Network

[Shenzhen, China, 15 September]: 2011: Huawei, a leading global information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider, today announced a new partnership with Aero2, Poland's leading mobile broadband operator, to launch the world's first LTE TDD/FDD converged commercial telecommunications network.

Leveraging Huawei's innovative SingleRAN LTE solution, the LTE TDD/FDD network will be the fastest mobile network in Poland, boosting high-speed mobile internet access with downlink data speeds of 134Mb/s and uplink speeds of 124.8Mb/s.

"We are thrilled to partner with Huawei on a further breakthrough in network deployment by launching the world's first LTE TDD/FDD network, which will enhance user experience with improved data speeds and create a more compact and efficient network infrastructure," said Adam Kuriański, President of Aero2. "Using Huawei's technology, we plan to expand TDD/FDD network coverage to 25 percent of the population and bring mobile broadband services to over 200 urban and rural communities in Poland by the end of 2012."

"As the global ICT ecosystem continues to converge and evolve, global operators are seeking new ways to make their networks more flexible, more efficient and more effective in providing subscribers with cutting-edge mobile data experiences," said Deng Taihua, President of WiMAX/TDS/LTE, Huawei. "Huawei is pleased to partner with Aero2 to take modern mobile broadband to the next level. This is part of our commitment to offer the best network infrastructure and the latest technology to operators worldwide as we continue to drive the future of mobile telecommunications together."

The LTE TDD/FDD network launch marks another milestone in Huawei's partnership with Aero2. Gioca Casino secures AAMS license to launch in Italy with Spiral Solutions and Nexigames

LONDON, UK, 15 SEPTEMBER 2011 - Spiral Solutions Ltd., a leading provider of managed eGaming services has partnered with Nexigames to launch Gioca Casino, a new gaming experience for the regulated Italian market. With bespoke consultancy from Spiral Solutions, Gioca Casino has been awarded the AAMS license for online gaming in the highly competitive regulated Italian eGaming market.

Gioca Casino will work closely with Spin³*, a leading full service mobile gambling solutions provider, to expand into mobile gaming, once Nexigames is awarded a license for mobile gaming within the next few months. Spiral Solutions is providing full managed services, designed around the specific needs of Nexigames, to complement its strong brand and to maximise the unique opportunity of being one of the first AAMS licensed providers in the regulated Italian market.

Matti Zinder, head of Spiral Solutions said, “It’s of crucial importance that firms like Nexigames are able to leverage their trusted brand name and establish themselves before the eGaming market becomes too crowded in Italy. We have developed a very flexible offering where we use our experience to guide companies through every stage of the AAMS process and provide tailor-made services, offering both land based and online affiliation. Alternatively, companies can become a white label partner with Gioca Casino, which already has an AAMS licence, and create their own platform based on that, eliminating the need to apply for their own AAMS license. Either way, we ensure they navigate the long and bureaucratic AAMS licensing process with maximum efficiency, while completely customising the support and managed services required. This will ensure organisations have an easier route to enter the eGaming industry.”

Julius Antony of Nexigames, said, “Italy is set to be one of Europe’s biggest and most exciting eGaming markets. It’s taken some time to get to the point of a regulated market in Italy, but now it’s very important that we move quickly. Spiral Solutions’ guidance and vast experience with regulated markets helped us to secure the AAMS licence swiftly and we’re confident that we’re in a strong position as a result.”
